Engaging in candle-making as a delightful and creative hobby offers enthusiasts the opportunity to craft personalized candles. However, the joy of this craft can be marred by common mistakes that have the potential to impact the quality and aesthetic appeal of the final creations. In the following discussion, we delve into these prevalent errors, offering valuable insights on how to navigate and avoid them. By understanding and sidestepping these common pitfalls, enthusiasts can ensure a more enjoyable and successful candle-making experience, creating candles that reflect their unique vision and creativity. Try to avoid these common mistakes, whether you are a beginner, an intermediator or a professional candle maker. If you have turned your hobby into your profession, then any of the mistakes will shift your customer from you to your competitor.

Types of candles

First and foremost, we have to know what the candle types are. We have identified candles in broad categories to understand them properly. All types of candles fall into these 2 categories.

  1. Pillar candles: These types of candles have the capability to stand alone. They do not need any support to stand. These are hard and made from hard wax like fully refined Paraffin. Sometimes additives are also used to make wax harder.
  2. Container Candles: These types of candles are made in any container or jar. Maybe metallic, ceramic, or glass. The wax used in these candles is soft. If the wax is hard then it can be made soft by adding some additives like Coconut Oil.

Let’s explore common candle making mistakes.

Choosing the Wrong Candle Wax:

One of the most fundamental aspects of candle-making is selecting the right wax. Candle making Mistakes in this step can lead to issues such as poor burn quality and uneven melting. To avoid this, research types of wax (soy wax, paraffin wax, beeswax, Palm wax & Gel wax) and choose the one that aligns with your preferences and the intended use of the candle.

Inadequate Wick Selection:

The wick plays a crucial role in the burning process. Selecting the wrong wick size can lead to problems like tunneling or uneven burning. Make sure to match the wick diameter with the candle’s diameter and consider the type of wax used, as different waxes require specific wick characteristics.

Namo Creations provides wicks that are made from 100% cotton. You can choose from different options. To help you, we have also provided a guide as well. Still, I recommend trying it on your end with your wax and fragrance composition.

Ignoring Fragrance Ratios:

Adding fragrance to your candles is a popular choice, but neglecting proper fragrance ratios can result in overpowering or barely noticeable scents. Follow recommended guidelines for fragrance load to ensure a balanced and pleasant aroma without compromising burn quality. There is a particular temperature at which fragrance needs to be added to molten wax for better results. The temperature needs to be confirmed from where you buy the fragrance. Also, fragrance load is important as few fragrances are strong and few are light. While mixing two or more fragrances, it should be taken care that low-intensity scents will add extra as compared to strong ones.

Namo Creations has alcohol-free fragrances that are made from 100% natural ingredients. All candles are manufactured considering international standards. Well tested for candles
