Heartfelt Appreciation with Viejo Creates Movement - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

Heartfelt Appreciation with Viejo Creates Movement - The Academy for Coaching with Horses Recently, I was honored to work with a very intelligent horse by the name of Viejo. For several of my students, the session we witnessed was profound and life altering.

Timing is Everything with Horses and Life - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

Timing is Everything with Horses and Life - The Academy for Coaching with Horses : Many years ago, when I first got Moon, I boarded him at a public facility. This was a huge mistake. To my astonishment and dismay, he arrived at the ranch looking 30-years old. He was infested with ticks, underweight, and utterly depressed. It turns out that the owners had sent him to a holding facility a few months before he came to me. That transitional experience took a toll on his heart and health. It was heartbreaking. When I asked the barn manager how we would integrate my depressed and underweight horse into the herd, he said, “Simple, we just […]

From Fear to Softness - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

From Fear to Softness - The Academy for Coaching with Horses : Esperanza came to my ranch in early June of this year. As a half-Friesian and half-Polish Arab, her presence was dazzling; large, excitable, and engaging. Her energy felt big and powerful, but at the same time, nervous. She had lots of questions about her new home and her new herd mates. Esperanza stands 15.2 hands, so in reality, she is not a big horse. Moon, my elder, stands at 16.2. Yet, when the two of them were close by each other, Moon felt dwarfed next to her. Moving Esperanza around took a solid presence and a direct, confident, and focused […]

Moon's Big Heart - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

Moon's Big Heart - The Academy for Coaching with Horses I took Moon up for a mellow ride on Rabbit Mountain last week. Once up the hill we meandered through the meadows sprinkled with late summer flowers and cactus.

Jumping Crawdads - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

Jumping Crawdads - The Academy for Coaching with Horses My friend walked down to the edge of the river, (before the flood) and noticed the crawdads were jumping out of the river—literally jumping out of the river and up onto the bank.

Baby is All Grown Up! - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

Baby is All Grown Up! - The Academy for Coaching with Horses Ginger is all grown up, or at least she thinks she is.  Nearly as tall as Corazon, Ginger continues to grow; her legs getting long with a more elegant look emerging. However, Ginger, aka Twinkle Toes, is still, and always will be, “the baby” to me.  (photo: Ginger One Month Young)

A Change of Color - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

A Change of Color - The Academy for Coaching with Horses :  The light cool breeze strokes and folds the golden tops of the drying grass. Patches of soft blue-green sage bushes sprinkled with scatterings of deep golden sunflowers accent and contrast the smooth water-like flow of the grass.

Layla and Vulnerability - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

Layla and Vulnerability - The Academy for Coaching with Horses :  These last few months I have been totally immersed in playing with my 11 month old filly, Ginger, and her six year old momma, Layla. I knew when I made the decision to bring a pregnant mare into my herd there would be lots of growth. Boy, was I right. However, I did not realize just how much growth!

The Gift of Taking Action - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

The Gift of Taking Action - The Academy for Coaching with Horses :  For the last five years I had my eye on a training program. Each year it comes to Denver and each year I have found a reason not to attend.

The Emergence of Horse as Guide, Mentor and Spiritual Teacher - The Academy for Coaching with Horses

The Emergence of Horse as Guide, Mentor and Spiritual Teacher - The Academy for Coaching with Horses : There are many ways to engage with Horse as one’s teacher, muse, spiritual guide or leadership mentor. Every coach and facilitator needs to find a style and approach that best works for them—AND their horse.  It is a complex and mysterious unfolding bringing unexpected turns and delights as one’s relationship with their co-facilitator deepens. Remember to ask your horse what he or she wants to do in this type of work. During sessions it is imperative to watch, with our eyes open. Notice closely the subtleties of body movements, eyes, quality of presence and the texture of energy being exuded, […]

The Mind Body Method | Professional Training with Horses

The Mind Body Method | Professional Training with Horses People are challenged in today’s world. Being bombarded all day with noise and images on the outside, people struggle to find their intuition, inner voice, and truth. It is easy to get caught up in how everyone else is responding and do the same. Then later, they wake up, only to find themselves lost in the chaos of the world.
